Where we are
Affittacamere Al Portico awaits its guests in the Sestiere of Cannaregio, one of the most populated and busy areas of Venice and the true heart of the city.
An area full of taverns, restaurants and stores, enlivening Strada Nuova and its surroundings.
In the immediate vicinity of the Al Portico guest house is the San Marcuola boat stop, from which boats sail to San Marco, the city’s main waterway: Canal Grande.
Near the stop is the Ca’ Vendramin Casino, right next to the Sotoportego del Pegolotto and our entrance, just minutes from the train station and car terminal at Piazzale Roma.
From the rooms of the Al Portico guest house you can easily reach the beautiful St. Mark’s Square–on foot in just 15 to 20 minutes or by boat–and the Rialto area, characterized by the historic market and the original architecture of its bridge.
St. Mark’s offers an extraordinary view, an open-air living room with the presence of the bewitching St. Mark’s Basilica, the very tall and famous bell tower, the Gothic Doge’s Palace, and the Clock Tower. A sight you cannot miss!
From the square start the Mercerie, a long artery that reaches all the way to Rialto, among stores of all kinds where it is possible for every pocket to buy souvenirs, footwear, clothes and Murano glass objects. The shopping continues in Calle Larga XXII Marzo, where the shop windows of the most prestigious boutiques make a beautiful sight.
If you walk from the Al Portico rooming house toward the station, you arrive near the Jewish Ghetto, the oldest ever, with multi-story houses (very rare in Venice), places to enjoy a different cuisine, and numerous art galleries.
